After searching the internet for several drawing classes, the one offered by Artquarium caught my attention for a number of reasons: you can come to any class, it's not a strict course like many others, and the photos and videos on the site made me want to go. At my first class, Gilbert asked me to draw an apple, even before I started learning how. I can tell you that I panicked... I'd come to learn how to draw, and now I'm faced with my sheet of paper, having to draw an apple. I did what I could, so my drawing was anything but artistic and proportionate. I expected Gilbert to reproach me, because everyone around me seemed to have drawing running through their veins. But I was wrong, he immediately put me at ease without directly criticizing my apple, and afterwards he explained to me how to make a prettier one. So I felt at ease from the very first class, and I look forward to going every week.
Another positive point is that it's not just a drawing course, but there are also analyses of paintings and little art history lessons. When we learn a new principle, Gilbert always illustrates it with paintings, and I find that this helps us a lot to assimilate things that at first seem complicated. You also get to meet lots of like-minded people, chat, give each other moral support when you're feeling uninspired, and make friends easily. The course itself is really enjoyable and it's a good opportunity to take a breather and relax during the week. I'd recommend it to anyone!
